CIRCA Computing Lab

Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM
Saturday from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Turnaround: You must print out materials yourself. The use of the machines is on a first come, first serve basis, so if you are in a hurry, plan on coming at an off-hour (either early in the day or late).
Deadlines: There are no deadlines since you are printing the materials yourself.
Cost: The cost is high, though: eight cents per page for black and white laser printing, and $0.75 per page for color laser printing. The Architecture Lab has scanners if you are putting together something with illustrations.
Special deals: There are none.
Instructions: Take work in on disk and print material at one of the computer labs on campus.

Library West
Location: North End of Plaza of Americas
Phone: 273-2525
Hours: Monday – Thursday from 7:30 AM to 11:00 PM
Friday from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM
Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Sunday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM
Turnaround: This is not recommended unless at the last minute. Turnaround depends on how quickly you can get access to a functioning machine. Peak times around exams tend to be rather busy.
Deadlines: There are no deadlines since you are making copies yourself.
Cost: The cost is rather high: ten cents per page with cash and $0.075 per page if you use a copy card. Transparencies are more expensive: fifteen cents per page with cash and twelve cents per page with a copy card.
Special deals: All copies are less expensive with a copy card. They can be purchased next to the copy machines. Be careful not to use the transparency copiers for regular copies or you will be charged the increased cost.
Instructions: You must bring hard copies to the library and copy them on available machines. The quality of the copies is usually very poor, so you should only use this for emergencies.

Office of Instructional Resources
Location: 1216 Turlington Hall
Phone: 392-0313
Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Turnaround: Depends on volume. If not very large, a job is usually done within 24 hours. Customers are serviced on a first come, first served basis. At the beginning of each semester, it tends to be congested and take longer.
Deadlines: You must obtain copyright permission yourself, so deadlines are not the same as in other companies.
Cost: This varies by the size of the run. Normal cost is five cents per copy. Inquire about bulk rates and current prices.
Special deals: There are only volume discounts: 1,000 copies at three cents per copy.
Instructions: They require photo-ready originals. Also, if using copyrighted material, you must bring a letter of permission to the office.
Distribution: You would have to pay for the run and then sell copies to your students in you own class, if it isn’t something you’re giving away, such as exams or syllabi.

Off-Campus Centers

Custom Copies
Contact: Kenny Roberts
Location: 1202 NW 9th Avenue, Suite A
Phone: 377-4221 or 1-800-856-5429
Hours: Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Turnaround: Excellent—this firm only does "academic copying" and has more time to devote to getting packets out on time. Also, to ensure security of exams, the owner, Kenny, personally picks up and delivers all exams. If you are out of town, he also offers complimentary Federal Express services.
Deadlines: For exams, they need to be brought in two full days before the test is to be given. In emergencies, 24-hour turnaround is possible, but can cause backlog and may not be available during finals. The course pack deadline for the fall is August 2 (generally three weeks before the beginning of the semester). Course packs turned in after that date will not be ready until the second week of class or later. This deadline applies to all course material. There are no deadlines during the summer.
Costs: Course materials for non-customers, i.e., those T.A.s who aren’t using Custom Copies for a course packet, course materials like syllabi and tests are copied at $0.025 each. This price includes collating and stapling.
Special deals: For instructors who use Custom Copies for produce course packs, copies of syllabi and exams are free. NOTE: you need to let Kenny know if you want to use this service when you drop off your course materials (or when they are picked up); let him know how many exams you will be giving, and the estimated number of pages.
Instructions: They will pick up and deliver to either home or office. They will accept syllabi and exams as an attached file via email (kenny@atlantic.net). They use a variety of word processing programs, such as Lotus Ami Pro, Word Pro, Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, and Page Maker. They will also work with a hard copy if formatting is a problem. For course packets, you do not need to make your own copies, just bring in your books, journals, or other original and they will construct a master document for you. They digitally erase margin notes, so you do not have to search for a clean copy of an annotated document for your course pack. They also provide a table of contents and complete pagination.
Distribution: You can choose from the following for course packets: Gator Textbooks, Wild Iris Books, or Goering’s Book Store. They will deliver fliers for your students that provide maps to the bookstore of your choice.
Comments: This company was the most highly recommended by a number of sociology students as well as faculty members for the following reasons. The owner, Kenny Roberts, sponsors the GAU end-of-the-semester mixer at Steve’s Café American. Kenny is also African-American and working with this company allows our department to support minority owned and operated businesses. Turnaround time is quite good and the quality of services goes above and beyond the norm.

Location: 40 N Main Street
Phone: 375-1030
Hours: Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Pickup and delivery (office or home) available until 6:00 PM.
Turnaround: Exams and syllabi usually are available within a few hours, definitely same day for an average of 8 pages, 70 copies. If you drop off, it can be done while you wait. Readers are also available. Turnaround for them depends on number of pages, number of copies, and copyright. They are strong for big volume runs; they can run 200,000 copies a day.
Deadlines: No deadlines. Turnaround is ASAP, and depends only on copyright approval. If clearance is already obtained or if there is no copyrighted material, it takes one to two days at most.
Cost: Depends on the number of pages and the number of copies. For smaller runs, e.g., a syllabus, the cost is generally three cents per page. As the amount of the job increases, the cost per page decreases to a minimum of two cents. This does not include binding or copyright.
Special deals: This varies, so inquire. Each job is bid separately by job or instructor. They will beat lowest price if other estimates are brought in with the job.
Instructions: They require the original hard copy. Do not submit material on disk. Please submit typed copy.

Distribution: Students purchase packets at center you have make the copies.
Comments: They give special rates to instructors when copying course materials, plus they take credit cards. One T.A. mentioned they Target left a page off of an exam. If you use the while-you-wait service, look over the copies closely; they are often quite busy and may make a mistake.
