Short (50 minute) interactive lecture used to introduce a constructionist perspective of gender. It begins with and introduction of the meaning of terms Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transvestite, Intersexual, and Transgender. It illustrates the institutional (medical) constructions of gender dichotomies. It ends with discussion of empowerment of transgender community in resisting ender dichotomous norms.

  • Some of the white students were upset and felt that the African-American parents’ techniques constituted "reverse racism." However, this is a good introduction for a discussion on racism itself and whether or not it is possible for a dominant group to be the "victim" of racial discrimination by a less powerful group.   • This is usually given for Marriage and the Family. I show the video of my commitment ceremony and talk about my alternative family.

  • This is usually given for Principles or Social Problems. I argue that the current culture of sport in the US purposefully constructs masculinity for men and inhibits women from understanding their physical ableness. Thus, women become less abled and men become more abled.
